New funding for networking startup LinkedIn

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Online business networking startup LinkedIn, which connects professionals around the world, has received an additional 22.7 million dollars in funding, the company announced.

LinkedIn chief executive Dan Nye, in a posting on the company blog on Wednesday, said the latest round of funding came from Goldman Sachs, The McGraw-Hill Companies, SAP ventures and Bessemer Venture Partners.

"I'm happy to announce today that we've received strategic investments in LinkedIn totaling 22.7 million dollars from market leaders in the enterprise software, investment banking and business information sectors," he wrote.

The latest capital infusion, which was finalized before the onset of the global financial crisis, comes just four months after LinkIn received 53 million dollars in funding from Bessemer and other investors.

Nye said the number of LinkedIn users, currently more than 30 million representing 150 industries, was "growing by leaps and bounds each month."

"This funding strengthens LinkedIn further, and will help us to continue creating additional services for professionals to connect and collaborate more effectively, around the world," he said.

LinkedIn, based in Mountain View, California, was founded in May 2003. It helps members find business contacts, service providers, potential clients and jobs.
