Vietnam hands child abuse suspect to FBI: report
HANOI (AFP) — Vietnamese police have handed a Vietnamese-American man wanted on child sexual abuse charges in the United States to the FBI, state-run media reported Saturday.
A suspect identified as Dang Van Viet, 44, was handed over to FBI agents on Friday at the airport in southern Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam News Agency said.
Viet allegedly abused the children of a relative for nearly 10 years until Maryland state police started searching for him in March, the VNA report said.
The suspect fled his Maryland home and travelled to several countries until his arrest in June in his southern Vietnam home province of Can Tho by police acting on an international FBI search warrant, VNA said.
