Bayern manager admits rift between Sagnol and Hitzfeld

MUNICH, Germany (AFP) — Bayern Munich manager Uli Hoeness has admitted there is a rift between French defender Willy Sagnol and coach Ottmar Hitzfeld.

Sagnol seriously injured his knee in April and has struggled to break back into the Bayern team this season, causing a rift between the French international and his coach.

Two weeks ago, the 53-times capped French star voiced his desire to leave Munich during the winter break which starts on December 15.

"There are at present some problems between Willy and Ottmar Hitzfeld, differences of opinion over his fitness and we hope they will be resolved during the winter break," said Hoeness.

"We will discuss the situation and hope to try and resolve it, but if we can't then we will have to look at the options and make a decision.

"I would not like to anticipate what that discussion would lead to."

Hoeness also confirmed the transfer of French defender Valerien Ismael, who will become a Hanover player on January 1 after signing a three-year contract.

The Frenchman had a medical on Wednesday and the transfer has been agreed for an undisclosed sum.

Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer has also hinted that more stars are on their way to Bayern.

Brazilian teenage defender Breno is expected to join during the winter break from Sao Paulo for a reported 14 million euros and the German giants are looking to reinforce their defence which has creaked on occasions this season.
