Dennis Rodman arrested for domestic violence: police

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Eccentric former basketball star Dennis Rodman has been arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of domestic violence against a woman, police said Thursday.

Rodman, a star member of five NBA Championship winning teams during colorful stints with the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls, was detained late Wednesday at a hotel in Century City near Beverly Hills.

Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Richard French said Rodman's alleged victim suffered arm injuries.

Rodman was booked for domestic violence and later released from custody early Thursday after posting bail of 50,000 dollars.

The 46-year-old former athlete, famous for his wacky hairstyles, body piercings and tattoos has been ordered to appear in court on May 22.

Rodman's manager Steve Simon told the Los Angeles Times that the athlete had been struggling to cope with a recent divorce.

"He's been really heartbroken about it and it hasn't been a great time for him," Simon was quoted by the Times as saying.
