LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Actress and riding enthusiast Bo Derek has been appointed to the California Horse Racing Board by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a statement said Wednesday.
The 51-year-old, best known for her role as the object of Dudley Moore's affections in the 1979 comedy "10," is a spokeswoman for the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act and is a Republican.
Derek's appointment to the 100-dollars-a-day post must be formally ratified by the California state senate.
Derek is the author of "Riding Lessons: Everything That Matters in Life I Learned From Horses" and owns a pet care products company called Bless the Beasts, according to a statement from Schwarzenegger's office.
The actress is one of seven gubernatorial appointees to the board who license nearly 14,000 trainers, jockeys, owners and others involved in the racing industry.
