Tottenham seal Hutton deal

LONDON (AFP) — Tottenham completed the signing of right-back Alan Hutton from Rangers on Wednesday and hope to pitch their new man into Premier League action against Manchester United at the weekend.

The 23-year-old Scotland defender is the third signing at White Hart Lane in the January transfer window, with Jonathan Woodgate and Chris Gunter already bolstering Juande Ramos' defence.

"We are delighted to announce we have reached agreement with Glasgow Rangers for the transfer of Alan Hutton," said a Spurs statement.

Rangers then announced they had signed Scotland international Christian Dailly from West Ham until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old leaves West Ham after falling out of favour with the Premier League club.

Rangers have taken over his contract, in a similar move to their capture of David Weir 12 months ago.

Initially it seemed as if Hutton was reluctant to leave Ibrox but the deal now appears too good for Rangers to have turned down.

Although the fee has not been disclosed it is reported that Tottenham have come close to matching the nine million pounds Sunderland paid for Craig Gordon, which made the goalkeeper the most expensive Scottish footballer in history.

Hutton's arrival at White Hart Lane is sure to add to the discomfort of current Tottenham right-back Pascal Chimbonda.

But the Scot gives Ramos more option in a defence where Chimbonda has has to fill in at centre-back when Ledley King and Michael Dawson have been injured.
