WASHINGTON (AFP) — The US Capitol building was partly evacuated Wednesday after a plane violated its airspace, but there was no imminent threat, a spokeswoman for the Homeland Security Department said.
"We have no indication at this time of any imminent threat," the spokeswoman told AFP, noting that authorities were still trying to get in contact with a private plane that cruised into the no-fly zone over the US capital city, sparking the evacuation.
"We are working on establishing communications. It is ongoing ... (but) the plane appears to be moving west" away from the capital, she added.
Two jets were scrambled from Andrews Air Force Base as was a Coast Guard helicopter, said the spokeswoman, who asked not to ne named.
