Janet Jackson cancels show after health scare

MONTREAL (AFP) — Pop star Janet Jackson cancelled a show in Montreal on Monday after being hospitalized for unspecified health reasons, a hospital source and her concert promoter said Tuesday.

Jackson, 42, called off her performance late Monday at the Centre Bell venue, and will reschedule to a later date, show promoter Gillett said in a statement.

US and Canadian media reported that the pop star, baby sister of pop icon Michael Jackson, was rushed to hospital just before she was to go on stage.

"I can confirm that Janet Jackson was a patient at the Royal Victoria hospital yesterday evening. She was released after two hours," a hospital spokeswoman told AFP, without giving further details.

Montreal newspapers said fans, some of whom had travelled from afar, had already started filling the downtown arena for the show.

Last week, Jackson cancelled a Detroit show citing "production constraints."

Her promoter said the singer would be back in Montreal soon and would not disappoint fans, without giving a date for a new show.
