Vivendi arranges 3.5 bln euro loans for acquisitions

PARIS (AFP) — French media and telecommunications group Vivendi said Friday it had arranged a 3.5-billion-euro (5.15-billion-dollar) credit line to fund US and French acquisitions.

Vivendi said it had sourced the funds from a pool of banks to buy out Internet operator Neuf Cegetel in which it indirectly controls a 40 percent stake.

It is also buying the US video games company Activision.

Vivendi said the fresh funding complements another 4.0 billion euros in bank credit lines not yet used, which together would allow the company to face the future with confidence.

In December, Vivendi said its SFR mobile phone unit had agreed a deal to give it full control of Neuf Cegetel, an Internet service provider.

Earlier that month, Vivendi said it was linking up with US rival Activision to form a new world leader in video games.
