Rice to head to Africa, Brussels in early December

WASHINGTON (AFP) — US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will travel to Africa and Brussels in early December, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Thursday.

Rice will hold several meetings in Addis Ababa on December 5-6 before traveling to Brussels for a December 7 NATO ministerial meeting, McCormack said.

In Addis Ababa she will join the regional security meeting of the "Great Lakes States" -- Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda.

She will also meet with her counterparts from eastern Africa and UN officials to discuss the conflicts in Somalia and Sudan, McCormack said.

And she will hold bilateral meetings with Ethiopian officials, at a time when tensions are growing between Ethiopia and neighboring Eritrea.
