Suns' Nash injures ankle in NBA pre-season game

ATLANTA, Georgia (AFP) — Two-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Steve Nash sprained his ankle Wednesday in a pre-season game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Nash, a six-time All-Star, left the game with 2:14 to play in the first half, but the Suns managed to pull off a 102-100 victory thanks to Grant Hill's game-winning jump shot with five seconds remaining.

Hill scored 13 points, Raja Bell had 18, and Boris Diaw and Sean Singletary chipped in 15 each for the Suns, who bounced back from a poor shooting night in an outdoor exhibition game in Indian Wells, California, on Saturday.

Nash's departure took some of the luster from a contest already lacking star power.

The Suns rested center Shaquille O'Neal, while Amare Stoudemire also missed the game with a right eye injury.

The Hawks were without starters Marvin Williams (sprained left thumb) and Mike Bibby (right oblique strain).
