DAMASCUS (AFP) — Syrian President Bashar al-Assad reshuffled his cabinet on Saturday and replaced two government ministers, the official news agency SANA reported.
"President Assad issued a decree and appointed Imad Abdel Ghani Sabuni as communications and technology minister and Mohammed Abdel-Sattar Sayyed as minister for Waqf" or religious endowment, the agency added.
Ghani, former director of the communications authority, replaces Amr Salem and Sayyed, previously vice minister of religious endowment, takes over from Mohammad Zyad Ayyubi.
SANA gave no explanation for the reshuffle, but a top Syrian official who spoke on condition of anonymity said the change was part of a "global re-evaluation" of the government's action.
This is the third reshuffle of the Syrian cabinet since September 2003.
