WHITE PLAINS, United States (AFP) — The United States will host Russia in the Davis Cup final in December in Portland, Oregon, the US Tennis Association said Wednesday.
Portland's Memorial Coliseum was selected as the site for the final, which will be held November 30-December 2.
The United States, led by Andy Roddick, James Blake and Bob and Mike Bryan, advanced to the Davis Cup Final with a 4-1 victory over Sweden last weekend in Gothenborg.
Russia rallied on the final day against Germany in Moscow to win their semi-final 3-2.
This will be the first Davis Cup final held in the United States since 1992, when the "Dream Team" of Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Jim Courier and John McEnroe defeated Switzerland in Fort Worth, Texas.
A 10-year-old Roddick was among the capacity crowds.
"It changed my life," Roddick said of the 1992 Davis Cup Final. "It changed the way I viewed tennis, especially the way I viewed Davis Cup. It just blew my mind, to see the team that we had there."
Russia are the defending Davis Cup champions and have won the Davis Cup twice in the past five years. The United States are 2-1 all-time against Russia, including a victory in Moscow in the 1995 Davis Cup Final, the last time the Americans won the title.
