BEIRUT (AFP) — Arab mediators clinched a deal on Thursday to defuse the latest crisis that pushed Lebanon to the brink of civil war, a ruling majority official told AFP.

"We have been informed by the Arab League delegation that a deal has been brokered," said the official, who did not wish to be named.

He added that the deal was to be announced shortly by the Arab delegation, headed by the Qatari prime minister.
