Nike sues Wal-mart over alleged sports shoe copy: court document

WASHINGTON (AFP) — US sports equipment maker Nike has started legal proceedings against giant retailer Wal-Mart over an alleged copy of its "Shox" sports shoe, court documents showed Friday.

"Without Nike's authorization, Wal-Mart has offered for sale and sold in the United States shoes having designs that are covered by the Nike design," Nike said in its suit lodged in a Chicago court.

"Wal-Mart knowingly and intentionally sold and continues to sell the infringing shoes as simulations of Nike shoes."

Nike is claimed unspecified damages and the withdrawal of the alleged copies of its Shox trainers, which have shock-absorbers visible in the heel of the sole.

Wal-Mart could not be reached for comment.
