WASHINGTON (AFP) — A teenager in the state of Georgia was decapitated when struck by an amusement park ride, US media reported Sunday.
The Atlanta Constitution newspaper reported that the 17-year old was struck and killed Saturday by the popular "Batman the Ride" at a Six Flags amusement park in the southern US town of Over, Georgia.
Authorities said the boy ignored numerous posted warning signs and scaled two fences to gain access to a restricted area where the roller coaster was running.
Park officials said the ride was going at its maximum speed, 50 miles (80 kilometers) per hour, when it hit the teen, who was at the amusement park with family members on a church group day trip.
Six Flags closed the ride late Saturday, but told the media that operations would likely resume Monday.
