Bhutto tries to leave house, police stop her: party

ISLAMABAD (AFP) — Former Pakistani premier Benazir Bhutto tried to leave her Islamabad home Friday to lead a protest against a state of emergency but was stopped by police, her party said.

"She tried to come out of the house. Police turned her back and we are trying to find another way," her spokeswoman Naheed Khan told AFP.

Police earlier placed Bhutto under house arrest to prevent her from leading the rally in the neighbouring city of Rawalpindi, her first since President Pervez Musharraf declared the emergency.
