NEW YORK (AFP) — Apple Inc. announced Monday that it sold one million new iPhones 3G in the gadget's first weekend on the market around the world.
"IPhone 3G had a stunning opening weekend," Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said in a statement.
"It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world," he said.
The phone, which is faster than its previous version, was launched in 21 countries on Friday. The eight-gigabyte version costs 199 dollars and the 16-gygabite iPhone goes for 299 dollars.
