LONDON (AFP) — Heir to the throne Prince Charles on Sunday hosted a family dinner for his parents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, in London to mark their 60th wedding anniversary this week.
Charles, his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and sons princes William and Harry were among 25 royals gathering at his Clarence House residence for the special occasion.
The monarch and her husband celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary Tuesday and are due to attend a service of thanksgiving marking the occasion at London's Westminster Abbey, where they got married, on Monday.
By contrast to that event, to which 2,000 guests have been invited including Prime Minister Gordon Brown and religious and military leaders, Sunday's dinner was a relatively intimate occasion.
The guests dined on Eggs Drumkilbo with lobster -- a set mousse which was a favourite dish of the queen's late mother -- followed by roast partridge from the royal Sandringham estate in Norfolk, east England, with roast potatoes, braised cabbage and bread sauce.
This was followed by vanilla, raspberry and chocolate layered ice-cream cake with a compote of red berries from Charles's Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire, south-west England.
The white orchids on the table were inspired by the contents of the queen's bouquet on her wedding day on November 20, 1947.
