Boy George charged with false imprisonment: police

LONDON (AFP) — The 1980s pop-star-turned-DJ Boy George has been charged with false imprisonment after he allegedly chained a male escort to a wall in his apartment, London police said on Tuesday.

Scotland Yard said the 47-year-old musician -- famous for 1980s hits such as "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" and "Karma Chameleon" -- was charged over an incident at his flat in the trendy Shoreditch area of east London on April 28.

Boy George -- real name George O'Dowd -- was released on police bail and told to appear before magistrates in east London on November 22.

Last August, the former Culture Club singer traded in his microphone for a broom to complete a week of community service in New York after admitting that he falsely reported a burglary at his lower Manhattan apartment.

Police who responded found cocaine.

Boy George, left Culture Club in 1987 and embarked on a brief solo career before reinventing himself as a club DJ and launching a fashion label, B-Rude.
