WASHINGTON (AFP) — US President George W. Bush will make a statement on the global financial meltdown around 10 am (1400 GMT) Friday to assure Americans that their leaders are grappling with the crisis, the White House said Thursday.
"Following the markets' continued volatility the president will make a statement in the Rose Garden tomorrow morning," said spokeswoman Dana Perino.
Bush will "assure the American people that they should be confident that economic officials are aggressively taking every action to stabilize our financial system," Perino said in a conference call.
The US president will say that "Americans should be confident that every effort is being taken to stabilize our markets" and that US authorities "have all the necessary tools to address the problems we are facing," she said.
Bush will also make remarks in the Rose Garden after meeting Saturday with finance ministers from the Group of Seven wealthy industrialized democracies and the heads of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, she said.
That statement will come after a breakfast meeting at the White House with those officials.
