Paltrow says she is helping Madonna through divorce

LONDON (AFP) — US actress Gwyneth Paltrow is supporting her close friend Madonna through her marriage split, she said at the premiere of her new film in London.

Like the pop superstar, Paltrow, 36, is married to an Englishman, Coldplay singer Chris Martin. The two also share a love of yoga.

"She's a very good friend," Paltrow said at the London premiere of her new film "Two Lovers."

I'm supporting her in all the ways that I can. I'm just there for her. I speak to her a lot."

Madonna and her British film director husband Guy Ritchie announced last Wednesday that they are to divorce. A bitter war of words between "friends" of the couple has erupted in the media since.

"Two Lovers" stars Paltrow as a woman whose neighbour, played by Joaquin Phoenix, falls in love with her -- but then becomes embroiled in a love triangle.

Paltrow, who earlier this year made a string of public appearances in vertiginous high heels, appeared at the premiere in a floor-length black dress and flat shoes due to a knee injury.

She said this was sustained when she was "being stupid."
