CHISINAU (AFP) — Moldova is to withdraw its small contingent of soldiers in Iraq ahead of schedule in December, its army said Wednesday.
The decision to pull the troops out three months early reflected Iraq's "stability... and the transfer of de-mining operations to (Iraqi) armed forces," General Ion Coropcean told AFP.
Moldova has had a contingent of 20 personnel to remove land mines left over in Iraq since the US-led invasion of the Middle Eastern country in March 2003.
