VP candidate Palin to drop puck at Flyers' home opener

PHILADELPHIA (AFP) — Sarah Palin, the Republican candidate for the vice presidency of the US, will drop the ceremonial puck when the Philadelphia Flyers host New York in a National Hockey League game on Saturday.

Presidential nominee John McCain's running mate in the upcoming election, Palin has described herself as a "hockey mom."

The 44-year-old mother of five will join the winner of the Flyers' regional search for the "Ultimate Hockey Mom" contest at centre ice for the ceremonial opening faceoff.
