Capirossi, Vermeulen extend Suzuki deals

PARIS (AFP) — MotoGP riders Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen have extended their contracts with Suzuki for a year, the Japanese team announced on Friday.

Italian Capirossi, 35, joined Suzuki this season, and has proved that he still has the competitiveness for an additional year after finishing third in the Czech Grand Prix. He is currently ninth in the standings.

The three-time world champion - twice in 125cc and once in 250cc - has competed in 277 races over the past 18 years, achieving 99 podium finishes including 29 victoies.

Australian Vermeulen, 26, has been at Suzuki since 2005, winning the French Grand Prix at Le Mans in 2007. He has finished third twice this season and is currently sixth in the championship.
