Power restored at Philippine airport after day of chaos

MANILA, Philippines (AFP) — Electricity has been restored to Manila's main domestic air terminal Wednesday, a day after a power outage caused more than 50 flights to be delayed, stranding hundreds of passengers, officials said.

Manila International Airport Authority said a circuit breaker that tripped causing the outage has been repaired and that the incident was being investigated.

Flights on Wednesday "will leave and arrive as scheduled," the agency said, adding that terminal systems including lighting, air-conditioning, baggage carousels and conveyors were now back on line.

About 54 flights were delayed on Tuesday, and hundreds of irate passengers had to sweat it out in long queues at the terminal. Staff had to use emergency lighting and baggage was manually checked, causing chaos at the run-down terminal.
