Stars turn out for Minghella memorial service
LONDON (AFP) — Actors Jude Law and Alan Rickman gave readings at a memorial service Saturday for British film director Anthony Minghella, who died last month.
Minghella, whose films included "The English Patient" and "The Talented Mr Ripley", died on March 18 aged 54 after an operation on a growth on his neck.
His family and friends gathered at a church on the Isle of Wight, southern England -- where his parents run an ice cream business -- to remember his life.
Law, who starred in several of Minghella's films, read the poem "When Death Comes" by Mary Oliver. The order of service said: "This was one of Anthony's favourite poems read by Jude, one of Anthony's favourite people."
Rickman read from a radio play by Minghella, while Minghella's sister Gioia read the last words of Katharine Clifton, Kristin Scott Thomas's character in "The English Patient".
