US NAVAL BASE AT GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba (AFP) — A US military jury reached a verdict Wednesday in the controversial war crimes trial of Osama bin Laden's former driver Salim Hamdan, an official said.
Authorities said they would make an announcement momentarily about their decision in the case, the first US military war crimes tribunal since World War II.
The verdict, reached by six military officers on their third day of deliberations, will determine whether Hamdan faces life in prison for allegedly conspiring with and assisting the Al-Qaeda terrorist network.
Defense lawyers have slammed the US "war on terror" trial as lacking in fundamental civil rights.
