VIENNA (AFP) — Soprano Anna Netrebko, who has pulled out of this year's Salzburg Festival because she is pregnant, is set to marry the father of her child "soon", the tabloid daily Oesterreich reported on Wednesday.
Netrebko, 36, who is Russian-born but has Austrian citizenship, is to set up home with her fiance, Uruguayan baritone Erwin Schrott, here in Vienna, the newspaper reported quoting sources close to the singer.
The baby is expected late summer or early autumn, it added.
When contacted by AFP, her management was not immediately available to confirm or deny the report.
Netrebko is currently in Vienna filming Puccini's evergreen tear-jerker "La Boheme" with Mexican tenor Rolando Villazon.
She was to have been the star attraction at Salzburg, alongside Villazon, singing the title roles in Gounod's "Romeo et Juliette".
But she announced she was cancelling after news of her pregnancy broke on Monday.
Both Netrebko and Villazon have repeatedly cancelled performances over the past year, much to the chagrin of ticket-buyers.
Festival organisers are currently looking for a replacement for Netrebko, with an announcement to be made shortly.
Netrebko has regularly appeared with her fiance, 35-year-old Schrott, since 2003, but their relationship only became public at the end of last year.
Previously, Netrebko had a relationship with Italian baritone Simone Alberghini.
