Water woes shut down Canada's parliament
OTTAWA (AFP) — Plumbing problems in the Canadian capital forced lawmakers to adjourn parliament and all committee meetings early Monday until repairs could be made.
According to reports, taps ran dry and toilets backed up after maintenance work on a city water line supplying parliament and its satellite buildings reduced pressure to a trickle.
MP and government House leader Peter Van Loan told parliament of a "situation" in downtown Ottawa caused by a "lack of water."
"The sergeant-at-arms of the House of Commons has advised me that, in his opinion, the situation represents a health and safety risk," he said.
By evening, city workers had fixed the problem.
