Remains of two babies found in box

LONDON (AFP) — The remains of two dead babies have found in a box at a house in Greater Manchester, police said on Monday.

The bodies were discovered when the house in Audenshaw was being cleared out following the recent death of its owner, who was an elderly woman.

"The bones are believed to be from two babies and had been at the address for some time," a police statement said.

They were found inside two boxes which were inside a larger box.

It was not immediately clear when the infants died and a paediatric expert was expected to run tests to find out their age at the time of death. Manchester police said a post mortem would be carried out on Monday to determine how the infants died.

Experts were also expected to run DNA tests to determine whether the elderly woman was the mother.

A press conference is likely to be held later on Monday, a police spokeswoman said.
