CAHORS, France (AFP) — With a wicker basket in hand, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark stepped out on her first full day of her summer vacation to do what most other holidaymaker would do -- go shopping.
Dressed in a blue dress and red T-shirt, the Scandinavian monarch bought cheese, foie gras and other dinner table delicacies as she spent more than an hour in the market in picturesque Cahors, southwest France.
She smiled broadly as merchants and passers-by recognised her from previous visits.
Queen Margrethe, 68, traditionally spends a few days each year in the area with her French-born husband Prince Henrik, 74, in a family chateau that includes a 24-hectre (60-acre) vineyard.
