Comoros police HQ targeted in arson attack

MORONI (AFP) — The central police station on the main island of the Comoros Indian Ocean archipelago was damaged by aronists overnight, police told AFP Monday.

"Unknown attackers set fire to the police station overnight. The departments of investigation and accounting were burnt down," said Misbahou Abdoul Maliki, chief of police for the isle of Grande Comore.

He said the policemen on duty were asleep when the arsonists dragged tyres in front of the premises, doused them with gasoline and set fire to them.

There were no casualties but computer equipment and part of the police archives were destroyed in the fire, he added.
