Brazil lukewarm over 'Hulk''s Rio trip

SAO PAULO (AFP) — The movie "The Incredible Hulk", released worldwide this week, has received a lukewarm welcome in Brazil, where some of the scenes were filmed.

The newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo highlighted the fact that the 150-million-dollar production shot action in the Rio de Janeiro slum of Tavares Bastos using mostly Canadian actors pretending to be Brazilian locals.

Only two Brazilian actors made it on set to perform alongside the movie's star, Edward Norton, whose character Bruce Banner is hiding out in Brazil while trying to control his anger that turns him into the giant green Hulk.

"Look, I'm really sorry. I know that the 'Brazilians' in the film don't speak Portuguese properly," the newspaper quoted the movie's French director, Louis Leterrier, as saying in a telephone interview.

The newspaper wrote off the movie itself as "gets the job done, but with no finesse."

It also notes the creative tension between Norton and the company Marvel, which is the film's producer and the owner of the Hulk character.

Norton, long known for his prickly behaviour on set, has reportedly taken off on a long African vacation instead of promoting the movie.
