IOC could order early end to Beijing torch relay: IOC official

BEIJING (AFP) — International Olympic Committee members will this week discuss ordering an early end to the global section of the protest-marred Beijing Olympic torch relay, a top IOC official said Tuesday.

"I am sure it will be discussed," Gunilla Lindberg, a vice president of the IOC, said when asked if she thought the IOC could scrap the overseas legs of the torch relay.

Lindberg said it was important for the IOC to review the international torch relay in light of protests that disrupted the last two legs of the relay in London and Paris.

"I think we need to have a full review," she said.

The IOC executive board begins a three-day meeting in Beijing on Thursday.
