Cusack to star in apocalyptic '2012'

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — John Cusack is to star in German film-maker Roland Emmerich's latest apocalyptic thriller "2012," entertainment industry press reported on Tuesday.

Emmerich, the director of special effects-laden blockbusters such as "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow," co-wrote the screenplay for the movie, which will start filming in July.

Cusack, most recently seen in "Martian Child" and the supernatural thriller "1408" has already signed on for "2012," Daily Variety reported.

Emmerich's film begins with a global disaster which ends life as we know it before following the struggles of those who survive.

Cusack, whose other films include "High Fidelity," "Must Love Dogs" and "The Grifters," will next be seen in the satire "War Inc," due for release in the US later this year.
