BEIJING (AFP) — A newborn girl was found abandoned in a women's toilet in China's Bird's Nest National Stadium during the Paralympics, state press said Wednesday.
The baby was discovered on Tuesday afternoon and was believed to have been born in the toilet as events were being held at the stadium, the Beijing Times reported, citing stadium officials.
A spectator discovered the baby in the toilet and reported the incident to Games volunteers, it said.
There was no trace of the child's mother when the baby was found, the report said.
The child was taken to a local hospital where doctors pronounced her in good health, it said.
Doctors and Games officials said it was likely that the baby had been born in the toilet as the infant was covered in blood, the paper said.
Media officials with the Games organising committee said they were unaware of the discovery of the baby when asked by AFP.
