Naomi Campbell orders phone cut in Brazil hospital room: report

SAO PAULO (AFP) — British supermodel Naomi Campbell has ordered the phone in her Sao Paulo hospital room where she is recovering from surgery be cut off to protect her privacy, the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper said on its website Wednesday.

Campbell, 37, is convalescing in the Sirio-Libanes hospital in the Brazilian city following emergency surgery Monday to remove an ovarian cyst. She is expected to remain there until next weekend.

According to the report, the model patient was furious at doctors for telling media about her operation.

Staff at the hospital said the celebrity, famously given to diva-like behavior, was "in no way courteous" to them and had barred them from her room.

They added that a wealthy Brazilian businessman believed to be her boyfriend, Marcus Elias, was in constant attendance.

The doctors treating Campbell, gynecological surgeon Jose Aristodemo Pinotti and infection specialist David Uip, told media Tuesday about the surgery, saying it went well but refusing to divulge what it entailed exactly.

It was her spokeswoman in Europe who gave the game away, declaring the model had a small cyst removed.

"She would like to thank the doctors who have kindly looked after her," the unnamed spokeswoman said, according to Britain's Press Association.
