Hall of Famer Ryan named Rangers 10th president

ARLINGTON, Texas (AFP) — Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan is returning to the Texas Rangers as the 10th president in team history.

Ryan will replace Jeff Cogen left the Major League Baseball organization in November to take a job with the Dallas Stars.

The 61-year-old Ryan spent the final five seasons of his Hall of Fame career with the Rangers.

He holds two of baseball's most prestigious and perhaps unbreakable records with seven no-hitters and 5,714 strikeouts.

Ryan entered into a personal services contract with the club in 1994, spending 10 years in that role, mostly making occasional goodwill appearances on the team's behalf.

Ryan would leave the Astros with more than a year remaining on five-year personal services contract he signed in 2004.
