Nadal unlikely to make Davis Cup final - coach

MADRID (AFP) — Spain's world number one Rafael Nadal is unlikely to to be fit for the Davis Cup final against Argentina this month, his coach has said.

There is "very little chance" that Nadal will take part in the final because "he is still suffering" from a knee injury, Toni Nadal, who is his uncle as well as his coach, told the Marca sports daily published Monday.

Nadal, a champion with Spain in 2004, was forced to skip the season-ending Shanghai Masters Cup owing to the tendinitis in his right knee. He is to undergo new tests in Barcelona on Monday.

The Spaniard said on his website Monday that a decision would be made on "Monday or Tuesday" on his participation in the November 21-23 Davis Cup final in the Argentine city of Mar del Plata,

His absence would be a boost to Argentina in its hopes of winning the cup for the first time.

Nadal, 22, landed a fourth straight French Open title and a first Wimbledon crown this season to dethrone Roger Federer from world top spot.
