MADRID (AFP) — Oscar-nominated Spanish film stars Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, who are longtime friends, have started dating after working together on Woody Allen's latest movie, Spanish weekly "Hola" reported.
The magazine published photos of Cruz, 33, in a black bikini beside Bardem, 38, wearing black swimming trunks, while on holiday in the Maldives on the cover of its latest edition, due to hit newsstands Thursday.
"The photos that confirm their relationship. Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem in love in the Maldives," it said in its front page headline.
Cruz and Bardem starred together in the 1992 dramatic comedy "Jamon, Jamon", in which they played lovers, and are Spain's most famous actors.
Allen's latest film, tentatively called "Summer Project", depicts a romantic intrigue between a painter, his ex-girlfriend and two American tourists.
Cruz has previously been linked with US actors Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey.
Bardem received an Oscar nomination for 2000's "Before Night Falls," while Cruz received a best-actress nomination for Pedro Almodovar's 2006 "Volver".
