McCain names Palin as running mate: campaign source

DAYTON, Ohio (AFP) — Republican White House hopeful John McCain on Friday named conservative Alaska Governor Sarah Palin in a surprise choie for his vice presidential running mate, campaign officials told AFP.

Asked if Palin was to be McCain's choice, a campaign official told AFP on condition of anonymity that it was "confirmed Sarah Palin."

McCain was set to make an official announcement of his Palin as his pick shortly, campaign sources said.
