ATLANTA, Georgia (AFP) — Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith will miss two to four weeks with a high left ankle sprain, the National Basketball Association team said Friday.
Smith left Friday's 110-92 victory over the Toronto Raptors seconds before halftime with the injury.
Smith, who had averaged 14.7 points and 10.0 rebounds heading into the game, scored six points before his departure and didn't return to the court.
The 22-year-old forward inked a five-year, 58 million-dollar deal in the offseason after averaging a career-high 17.2 points last season.
Thanks in part to Smith the Hawks - who made their first postseason appearance in nine years last season - have won their first four games.
It is the best start to a season for the Hawks since they won 11 in a row to begin the 1997-98 NBA campaign.
