LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Eccentric US film director Tim Burton is to make a 3D version of "Alice in Wonderland" for Disney studios, the Hollywood specialist magazine Variety said.
Burton was behind such movies as "Edward Scissorhands" and the reworked version of Roald Dahl's children's classic "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" starring Johnny Depp.
He has signed a contract with Disney for two 3D films. As well as filming the tale by British author Lewis Carroll, he will also remake his own 1984 film "Frankenweenie."
Burton's latest project, a film version of the Stephen Sondheim musical "Sweeney Todd" also starring Depp, is due to be released soon.
In September, Burton, the master of the macabre, became the youngest recipient of the Golden Lion for career achievement at the Venice film festival.
