LONDON (AFP) — The London stock market firmed in opening deals on Wednesday, after striking a three-year low point the previous day, with a gain of 0.13 percent to stand at 5,178.60 points.

On Tuesday, the FTSE 100 index of leading shares had tumbled by 2.42 percent to 5,171.90 points -- the lowest close since October 21, 2005 -- as investors were gripped by concern about the US financial sector.
