US govt takes over Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac
WASHINGTON (AFP) — The US government took control of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac on Sunday, placing them in a government "conservatorship" to help the financial system recover from massive housing losses, officials said.
