LOS ANGELES (AFP) — A helicopter pilot was killed after his aircraft crashed on a busy Los Angeles freeway, officials said Saturday.
The Federal Aviation Administration was investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred on the 110 freeway in south Los Angeles at around 11pm (0700 GMT) Friday, a spokesman said.
The FAA said the pilot of the Robinson R-22 helicopter, who had been flying solo, was declared dead at the scene of the accident. No further information about the pilot was immediately available.
Wreckage from the accident was strewn across the freeway but California Highway Patrol officers said no other vehicles were caught in the crash.
