LONDON (AFP) — Mohammed Al Fayed, the father of the man who was killed alongside Princess Diana in a car crash in 1997, is due to give evidence at the inquest into the deaths for the first time on Monday.
The outspoken Harrods owner is expected to tell the inquest jury that the Paris car crash was not an accident and that he believes the royal family ordered the killing of his son Dodi and Diana.
Al Fayed insists that Dodi and Diana were engaged and that the royal family was against the idea of the mother of the future king marrying a muslim. According to Al Fayed, Prince Philip was at the heart of the murder plot.
Al Fayed will likely be asked to produce evidence to support his accusations that MI6 were involved in orchestrating the crash.
The Diana inquest is looking into the deaths of Diana and her boyfriend Dodi, who were killed along with their chauffeur Henri Paul in a car crash in a Paris underpass in August 1997.
Witnesses that have appeared at the inquest so far have said little to back up Al Fayed's conspiracy theory.
