Stumbling Steelers keep eye on playoff berth

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (AFP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers will try to snap a two-game skid on Thursday and get their National Football League playoff push back on track with a victory against the Rams.

After falling to New England and Jacksonville in the past two weeks, the Steelers now need some help from their rivals if they are to punch a postseason ticket this week.

In their 29-22 loss to Jacksonville, Pittsburgh gave up an uncharacteristic 224 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger threw three touchdown passes against the Jaguars, but passed for a total of just 146 yards. He was also sacked five times as the Steelers suffered their first loss at home.

With the defeat Steelers fell into a tie for first place with the Cleveland Browns in the AFC North division.

The Browns play Cincinnati on Sunday, when Tennessee, still clinging to their slim playoff hopes, play the New York Jets in a game with possible repercussions for Pittsburgh.
